Cera Carer and Family mobile Apps
The Brief
Cera Care is a disruptive startup in the care giving industry. Their goal was to digitise and automate the care givers’ routine home visit reports. Currently these reports were done by paper and were rarely shared with family members living elsewhere. Cera wanted to create two apps: The first, focused on the care givers, allowing them to submit their visit reports online with ease. The second, focused on family members living away from their loved ones, allowing for full visibility into the care and health of their loved ones.

Project Challenges
The main user group of the Carer app, are the care givers: mainly women over 50 years old with very limited tech experience, especially on mobile devices. Being use to filing in the visit report on paper, there was a high friction point in learning to do so online via an app. It was crucial therefore that the new app would be intuitive and easy to use whilst also following strict medical guidelines.
Another challenge was to ensure carers provide a detailed, and thorough visit report. They are usually short on time, rushing from one patient to the next and extremely busy during their visit with the patients themselves. This often resulted in very short and minimal reports. As Cera wanted to share the visit reports with distant family members it was crucial the new reports provided more information about the patient state of mind, health and well being.
User testing and interview sessions
What we did
For the Carer app, our team conducted face to face interviews with existing care givers. The interview was split into 2 parts: A 45 minute user research, helped us understand their needs, frustrations and level to tech capabilities; and a short 15 minutes of testing prototypes for usability. The outcome of the research included a detailed analysis report in the form of user personas and a usability report.
For The family app, we conducted phone interviews with remote family members. The interviews goal was to understand better what kind of information family members want to know about the care of their loved ones.
Upon completion of research we created wireframes for both the Carer and Family apps. We then worked closely with the designers and developers on the final design and build of the two apps.
